Given the multitude of Birds which are able to be kept in Victoria, we will only cover some general information which will provide you with sufficient knowledge to make an informed decision about purchasing a bird and general health issues to be aware of.

1. Only buy your pet bird from a reputable seller.  They should be able to give the correct advice on keeping your pet bird, housing, feeding and health issues to be aware of.   Reputable sellers will ensure your bird has no health problems before they sell them.
2. Ensure the seller has quarantine facilities to house birds when purchased from unknown sources or if birds become unwell.
3. If your pet bird becomes unwell, contact a reputable seller first before contacting a vet.  We offer pre-vet advice on health/medical issues exclusively to our customers.
4. If your bird needs veterinary attention, you are best to contact a vet who specialises in birds.  Avian Veterinary Science is a specialised area best handled by properly qualified vets.  We can put you in contact with the right vet if one is required.
