Bunnies and Piggies make wonderful pets for all ages of owners and tend to be more popular with families who have young children.
There are quite a few differences between Bunnies and Piggies which must be understood before making a decision to purchase one.
- Normally grow larger than Piggies and therefore need a larger enclosure
- Bunnies can contract diseases from mosquitoes which in all cases causes death. Calici virus is one that can be vaccinated against, the other is Mixomytosis which can not be vaccinated against. The best course of action for all Bunny owners is to completely cover your enclosure with mosquito mesh and to vaccinate against Calici virus. We can advise you on how to do this.
- Piggies more so than most bunnies can be quite skittish so you should choose Piggies which are young or have been handled a lot.
- Neither Piggies or Rabbits should ever be feed food which contains molasses. Many supermarket brand foods do contain this so be aware. Also most grass based horse foods also include molasses. They should be fed plenty of fruit and veg. (certain foods are not to be fed, ask about fact sheet)
