Rats are one of the most misunderstood pets in our shop.  We spend so much time convincing parents that a rat is a much better pet than the humble mouse. Rats are clean, intelligent and very socialable; mice tend to lack these positive characteristics.

There is a general consensus that rats must have friends and we generally agree with this.  From our experience, a single rat can be quite happy if their owner offers them plenty of  time and play/be with them as often as possible.  At least once a day is preferred.

The most important decision to make when buying a pet rat is to buy it from a reputable seller.  They should be able to give the correct advice on keeping your rat, housing, feeding and health issues to be aware of.   Reputable sellers will ensure the rat has no health problems before they sell them.
